I don't know if you have heard of the project "The Image of the Other". I bet you have. It is a very interesting way to get students to write email to pals somewhere else around Europe followings a 10-step procedure. Students have to write a minimum of 10 emails about theselves, familiy, school and so on. Each email comes with a writing guide with useful vocabulary, relevant structures and everyday English. There's a student's booklet and a teacher's guide all free to be downloaded from the net. And there are versions not only in English but also in German, Spanish and Italian, if I remember correctly. All you need is a partner school and another teacher there who wants to get involved. Another way in which I've used the email with students is in order to send them links to dowloadable material both in English and German during weekends or longer holiday breaks or websites with on-line exercises, podcast, etc. Sometimes they have to work on their own at home and then submit what they've done or simply bring the material to the lesson for further practice. Thanks for including my post in your blog!!!
I think it a good idea to mention sources and therefore I add here that this is a contribution/post I wrote for our joint blog.
I am delighted that you find it so interesting as to include it in your own blog. After all that's one of the purposes of this course, exchange experience, and as far as this project is concerned mine is wide and intense.
