Following my daughter's advice ( aged 15) who had read it in Catalan and really enjoyed it, I bought The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas by John Boyne in English. What a surprise I had to find out that, apart from its plot, the book was really suitable for upper intermediate English learners as apparently its author copies the writing style of a nine-year old German boy so it is really easy to understand as to its structures, vocabulary ...I strongly recommended my advanced students to read it and so take pleasure in reading a "real " book not the usual graded readers.
